Feng Shui is a popular way to increase fortune and luck, and bring much success to the home and any private office.

Feng Shui Masters believe the way the home office is arranged directly affects the owner's ability to achieve career success.

Now for a little background: Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of luck management. The belief is that proper manipulation of the environment will enhance personal and business luck. This is established by increasing the energy flow in the environment. The belief is that all objects possess energy. This energy force is called Chi. An object's Chi will directly affect the environment either in a positive or negative way.

According to, The Little Book of Feng Shui, by J.M. Sertori, the following steps are an easy practical way to bring harmony and increase positive "Chi" in a home office.

The Feng Shui Office

  1. Get rid of clutter. Clean the desk surface of all clutter. Clean out drawers. Remove unused furniture. Clutter creates significant stagnant Chi and will rob the environment of positive energy.
  2. Sharp angles are known as poison arrows in Feng Shui. Soften sharp pointy corners with a plant or soft textured covering.
  3. Position the desk so that one's back is against a wall for support. This will ensure that one will have support in all their activity. Sitting with a window at the back signifies lack of support or back stabbing by others.
  4. Arrange the furniture in the office in an harmonious manner. This will allow the Chi to flow through the room without bumping into objects. Bumping into objects signifies that one will always have obstacles to overcome in their business.
  5. Place the computer and desk in the wealth corner of the home office (southwestern corner) which is thought to increase business success.
  6. Place a Dragon on the right side of the desk facing the door. This is thought to magnify personal appeal and make one a leader in all their endeavors.
  7. Place the cash register or cash box in the wealth corner. This will increase the money flow to the business.
  8. Never place a cactus or sharp looking plant in the home office. It is thought the Chi that enters the room will have to pass through the sharp plants and thus cause Chi to be sharp and very negative.
  9. Avoid placing the home office in a room with two doors. It is believed the positive Chi will enter one door and leave through the other door.
  10. One's desk should never be at the main door in the home office. The Chi which enters the room will strike boldly and cause occupants to have many obstacles to overcome.
  11. Hang crystals in the entrance to your home office. This is thought to enhance the positive Chi. Business fortune will improve and good luck will surround the business owner.
  12. Avoid placing objects which dispense heat near the main door to the home office. This includes printers, computers, fax, telephones, heating appliances, television, stereo. The belief is that the heat will cause Chi that enters the room to be hot and cool off very quickly. Thus the business will start out hot and cool down fast.

Use these tips to create a harmonious home office environment that brings positive Chi and good fortune.
