Five simple feng shui ideas to improve your wealth.

In matters of the heart, nothing is black or white. -- Peaches in SUNDAYS

As in matters of the heart, in feng shui, there are many shades of gray. It is possible that your desire for career, wealth, and fame overlap. On a bagua map, although the three cover distinct areas, your interpretation of feng shui and how it fits into your life will determine the specific “rules,” so to speak, that will work best for you.

1. For monetary wealth, you will likely want to focus on your southeast corner. The chi in this area is especially strong for building fortunes. According to Kirsten M. Lagatree in Feng Shui: Arranging Your Home to Change Your Life, it is commonly thought that “much of China’s trade occurred in southeastern coastal cities.”

2. Get some goldfish. Next time you’re in a Chinese restaurant, see if they have an aquarium as you walk in the door. Fish are believed to bring prosperity to a business. Keep your fish in quantities of three, preferably a total of nine. Keep them clean and happy and you may find that money seems to come to you when you least expect it. A koi pond in the SE corner of your garden will also contribute to the abundance in your life.

3. Keep a bamboo plant near your front door. Bamboo is a symbol of good luck. When you have bamboo near the entrance of your home, you will attract goodness within, part of that goodness being financial security. If you have a bamboo plant at work, the wealth it brings could be a raise or promotion.

4. Your wealth corner, or SE corner, is located between the wood element of the east and fire element of the south on the bagua map. For this reason, you must be careful about what type of cure you use when seeking an increase in wealth. For example, three pennies are frequently used to attract wealth, but in the SE, since they are metal, they could have an adverse effect.

5. Let there be light. Not an original thought, but fitting. A relaxing glow in your SE corner could be the right feng shui to lead abundance into your life. Overhead lighting in many instances can be overpowering (literally). Subtle (but substantial) can be the key to getting what you desire.
