Book review of Feng Shui Beauty by Billy Yamaguchi from Sourcebooks, Inc. ISBN 1-4022-0323-3. $29.95 US. $44.95 Canada.

It’s a feng shui world. Move your bed so that it faces the door to enhance empowerment. Place three coins under your phone to invite profitable calls. Move your child’s desk to the northeast corner of his room to help him learn more effectively.

Billy Yamaguchi has taken feng shui a step further in his new book Feng Shui Beauty. Not only will you now be able to harmonize the world around you and your inner chi, but the way you look can be orchestrated depending on your coloring and other physical attributes. In a world that is constantly on the go, you can learn to examine your own life and coordinate your look in a way that will benefit your psyche as well as your outer beauty.

The bevy of famous tresses and skin types that owe their looks to Yamaguchi include Julia Roberts, Ashley Judd, and Drew Barrymore. Billy's methods work for men, too, some of whom are Sean Astin, Mel Gibson, and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Carson Kressley.

Yamaguchi calls his book “a roadmap to understanding the energy of the individual according to the rules of Feng Shui and my professional experiences.” Feng Shui Beauty helps each person examine his or her unique personality and the influences that have an affect on different aspects of their lives. After taking a short test, the book is divided into sections that break down each natural element and determine how certain hairstyles, clothes, makeup, and exercise will best suit each person.

Feng Shui Beauty may seem out of place if you have been taught that feng shui brings about harmony and peacefulness in a natural sense. But the concept of feng shui has grown along with a growing, changing world. Allow yourself to bring balance to your life through a new you especially in tune to your own personal vibe.
